Usage Sodium sulfite (Na2SO3) is a versatile chemical used as an antioxidant and preservative in food (preventing browning in dried fruits), in water treatment (removing oxygen to prevent boiler corrosion), and extensively in the pulp and paper industry, textiles (bleaching/dechlorinating), photography, and chemical manufacturing for dyes and other compounds like sodium thiosulfate. It's also a byproduct of flue-gas desulfurization, turning pollution into a usable chemical.
